Preventive Care
     Prevention focused visits including complete physical exams and evidence proven preventive screenings, lifestyle change
     suggestions and recommendations for all ages.

Physicals
     In addition to routine physicals for our patients, we also do special physicals such as Department of Transportation physicals,
     Welcome to Medicare physicals, camp and college physicals.

Chronic disease management and education
     Patients dealing with chronic disease are supported by our providers and staff in several ways.  We offer education in many
     forms including small classes, individual instruction, printed materials and on line information.  Referrals are made to Certified
     Diabetic Educators or dieticians as needed to help our patients manage their disease. Our electronic record enables us to track
     our patients’ progress and reach out to those needing services or case management as needed or desired.  We strive for a team
     approach in helping patients manage their particular condition.

Tests
     For our patient’s convenience, we do several tests right in our office.  These include EKG’s, Pulmonary Function Tests,
     Pulse Oximetry, pregnancy tests, urinalysis, hemoglobin, blood sugar, rapid test for strep throat and anticoagulation
     (Protime or INR) testing.

Procedures
     • Vasectomy:  Dr. Kitchen performs “scalpel less” vasectomy in the Sherman office. 
        This simple office procedure can be done on Friday and the patient is back to work on Monday.
        Vasectomies are covered by most insurances, including Medicaid.

     • Colposcopy:  Dr. Lashbrook performs this procedure in the Westfield office.
        This is a procedure to follow up on abnormal pap smears and can frequently avoid a visit to the gynecologist. 

     • Office Surgery:  Our physicians do many simple office surgeries in the office such as skin lesion biopsies and removal,
        wart treatment, ingrown toenail procedures and small laceration repairs.   

     • Nerve Conduction Studies:  This test can help your provider diagnose diabetic neuropathy, carpal tunnel and
       other types of neuropathy.  This can provide valuable information to your provider to determine if further specialty
       care is needed, or if conservative treatment is appropriate.

Immunizations
     All recommended vaccines are provided at our office.  This includes all pediatric vaccinations. We utilize the most up to date
     vaccine schedules endorsed by the ACIP, CDC and New York State.  Westfield Family Physicians participate fully with the
     New York State Immunization Information System, a statewide registry to track pediatric vaccinations. We also offer free
     vaccines for children without insurance through the New York State Vaccine for Children program. All adult immunizations are
     also offered, including Zostavax (Shingles vaccine). 



Travel Medicine
     Westfield Family Physicians take a special interest in foreign travel and offer travel advice and vaccines.  It is not required to be
     an established patient to take advantage of this service.  Because some vaccines require more than one dose over a period of
     time, we encourage travelers to call for a travel consult well before their trip.

     Whether planning a business trip to China or a week at a Caribbean resort, taking the time to find out what illnesses you may
     be exposed to and learning how to minimize these risks can make the difference between a successful or disastrous trip.  We
     will schedule an appointment with our travel nurse who can review the current recommendations with you, including important
     guidelines to prevent food and water borne illnesses, illnesses transported by insects and vaccine preventable disease. 

     We carry all recommended vaccines including Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid, Polio and Yellow Fever.  Although these services
     may not be covered by your insurance, the investment in your trip can be priceless.
