Mark R. Hagen, MD

Ghana 2006

In May, 2006 I had the privilege of traveling to Ghana , W. Africa with a group of students from Grove City College in Grove City , PA. There were eight students that were members of the International Medical Mentoring Program. This program was based at Grove City College and it is for students in the premedical curriculum who wanted experience with overseas missions. The program is under the direction of Dr. Mark Weber, a professor at Grove City College . We worked in three different villages in Ghana over a period of two weeks in conjunction with one of the large local churches in the capital city. Their goal was to attract people to the medical mission and at the same time an effort was made to establish three new churches in the area. We saw hundreds of patients a day and it was a very rewarding experience for all the students as well as Dr. Weber and myself. I also had the privilege of being the guest speaker for the inaugural service of one of the new churches that was formed. The students all learned a great deal and it was exciting to be a part of the training. They all have the potential to make excellent physicians and hopefully someday carry on the tradition of overseas medical missions.
